Code

The Code of Standards for Advertising, Promotional and Direct Marketing applies to marketing communications (i.e. advertising and sales promotions) in all media.

Complaints handling

The ASAI handles complaints from any public or private person or body including consumers and competitors. All complaints are handled free of charge. Complaints must be submitted in writing (including via fax and an online complaints form) and accompanied by a copy or description of the advertisement, with details of where and when it appeared.

Copy advice/pre-clearance

Advice on a proposed advertisement or sales promotion is available, free of charge, from the ASAI Secretariat. The advice given is confidential and non-binding, but it provides a valuable early warning system to avoid waste of resources on advertising or promotions that may conflict with the Code. Copy advice is normally given within 24 hours of request.

The ASAI does not pre-clear advertisements. However, all alcoholic drink advertisements in Irish media must be approved by Central Copy Clearance Ireland (CCCI). Its decisions are based on the rules in the ASAI Code and statutory codes.
