Date of establishment: 1974 CodeThe scope of the Belgian self-regulatory code applies to all media. Complaints handlingThe JEP handles complaints from members of the public (consumers, consumer organisations, public authorities, etc) but not complaints from the industry, i.e. competitors or other advertisers, which are the responsibility of the courts. Complaints are handled free of charge. Complaints must be submitted in writing, if possible together with a copy of the advertisement in question. An on-line complaints form in Dutch and French is available on the JEP website. Copy advice/pre-clearanceSince January 2008 the JEP provides non-binding copy advice. Advertisers, agencies or media can request advice on the ethical and/or juridical aspects of an ad prior to launching it. The advice, as all copy advice, is only indicative. A fee of 100 Euros per dossier is charged for this service. Back
