Since EASA came into existence in 1992 it has been actively supporting the self-regulatory organisations that are members of the Alliance. It does so by producing best practice recommendations, providing training as to how to implement the recommendations and by awarding those that have worked hard to implement the best practice recommended. In June 2004, the advertising industry signed the EASA Self-Regulatory Charter, which commits the advertising industry to increased moral and financial support for self-regulatory systems across Europe. In order to make true on the commitments, EASA launched the Get-Fit Programme, which aims at getting all self-regulatory organisations to adopt the best practice measures put forward in the best practice recommendations in a way that is best suited to the regulatory framework they operate in. EASA also assists start-up initiatives of self-regulatory organisations in greenfield sites by providing advice, expertise and training as well as providing training of personnel once the self-regulatory organisation has been set up. This initiative has been given a further boost when the Get-Fit Programme was launched. More information on the best practice recommendations
